Joining Vercel

Joining Vercel

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Vercel as the Senior Marketing Operations Manager, Systems. This new role is an exciting step for me, and I couldn’t be more eager to contribute to a company that has already had such a meaningful impact on my career.

My first experience with Vercel was one of necessity. At SeekOut, my role owned MOPs, Analytics, RevOps, and the website. I was fortunate to have a full stack developer on my team, but they were a single point of failure. When they accepted an amazing role at another company, I knew it was going to take some time to hire a backfill (and unlikely that we could find a single person with such a broad skillset to cover development and strategy), so I had to FAAFIO (figure it out. See what I did there?). My guy left amazing documentation to get me on my way to web development 101, but I can’t over state the peace of mind I had knowing it would take both significant effort and intention to break our website, just by virtue of how Vercel works. And if “life… found a way,” I could just as easily roll back to the last stable build. We did eventually get another developer hired, but I was relieved and elated to keep the lights on for nearly 6 months with no errors and learn so many new skills.

As I step into this role, more than anything I’m excited to dig into the work again as an IC. I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves, experimenting with new tools like Inflection.io, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with marketing operations technology. I can’t wait to see how we can continue to build, scale, and grow at Vercel.

For a while now, I’ve been wanting to create my own website from scratch just to see if I could do it. Trouble is, I’m code literate, not code fluent. I had no idea how to do that. Enter: Vercel V0, an AI chatbot that specializes in React. I figured, “hey, we built SeekOut on React and use a headless CMS, that feels like something that’d be cool to do.”

And it was. You’re looking at it. 😊

I don’t want to know how many queries it took between V0 and ChatGPT, but this tech helped me do it relatively easily. Some features I’m proud of:

  1. Importing blog posts, using WordPress as a headless CMS
  2. Importing my Obsidian notes as work samples, without linking people to my Obsidian Publish page that includes everything from MOPs work to my favorite recipes (you need this one in your life though)
  3. Importing my Instagram feed to the /life page.
  4. Lightning fast image galleries that are a breeze to update

Clearly, the game has changed, and that creates some exciting possibilities. Vercel’s TAM is basically anyone that gets curious and talks to a robot to get help building something.

So, like… y’know… the entire population on Reddit.

LFG!

TFW your build completes for the first time. It was a deluge of a dopamine!
